First carve, kids helping, about 30 minutes
Big shapes, wide skin between cuts and no more than eight pieces to remove. A serrated kit saw and a poker are all you need. Start with a classic face, a waving ghost or a bat, and let younger kids poke the outline while an adult does the cutting.

Animals, witches and full scenes with 10 to 25 cuts. Thin bridges hold eyes and ears in place, so carve the smallest pieces first while the pumpkin is still strong. A drill bit or an apple corer makes clean round holes for eyes and stars.

Detailed portraits, sugar skulls and three-tone designs where gray areas are scraped thin instead of cut through. Use a linoleum cutter or clay loop for shading, work on a fresh pumpkin with a thick wall, and print the large size so every line stays carvable.

A carving table that never runs out of designs
PumpkinStencil started with one problem: most free designs online are traced from photos with a single brightness setting, and the moment you cut them, the eyes, teeth and inner shapes drop into the pumpkin. Every design here is drawn as bold two-tone shapes and then checked by software that looks for floating pieces and connects them to the skin with bridges at least 4 mm wide at the size you print.
The gallery has 150 original designs across 20 themes, from a three-cut classic face for a first carve to a sugar skull that takes an afternoon. Nothing is copied from films or cartoons, so you can print, share and carve them freely at home, at school or at a community event.
When you want something personal, the maker turns your own photo into a design in the same style. Classic mode is free and runs entirely in your browser; AI likeness redraws a pet or a face so it still looks like them once it glows. After Halloween the gallery grows with Thanksgiving, Christmas and winter designs, so the same tools work for every holiday on the calendar.
